A familiar game in the Cardboard Engineering theme
Pass the Parcel Prototype adapts Hot Potato / Pass the Parcel with this cue: Pass a lightweight empty cardboard prototype. The printable keeps the rules cooperative, removes elimination and gives educators practical ways to adjust movement and participation.
Set up
- Choose a light, easy-grip object and remove hard, breakable or food items.
- Arrange the group so every participant can pass or slide the object comfortably.
- Write four actions on scrap-paper cards, such as point, name, copy a rhythm or choose the direction. Agree on a spoken, visual or gentle rhythm stop cue. The holder is never eliminated.
How to play
- Pass or slide the object around the circle while the cue continues.
- When the cue stops, the holder draws one action card and may complete it, ask for a partner or pass the card without performing.
- Restart in the opposite direction or introduce a second safe passing route for a challenge.
- Rotate the cue leader and finish before the passing becomes rushed.
Theme variations
- Describe one feature when the cue stops.
- Use a sliding tray for easier passing.
Include more ways to join
Use a tray, partner pass, rolling option or larger textured object. A child may control the cue instead of receiving the object.
Safety check
- Pass or roll—do not throw the object across the circle.
- Choose washable, non-food equipment that suits the children present.
- Avoid penalties, exclusion and pressure to perform when the cue stops.
Printing notes
