Use this activity

Plan a shared helpful project: choose a goal, list materials, offer optional roles and write three steps to try. Recommended ages 6–12. Allow about 20 minutes. Read the instructions together and model one example.

Prepare and adapt

Use one printed sheet and pencils for a pair or small group. Allow about 20 minutes to plan; carrying out the project needs its own time and adult checks. No cutting or construction materials are needed for this planning sheet.

  1. Choose an imaginary or adult-approved helpful project, such as making a welcome sign for the reading corner. Ask the intended users what would be useful before agreeing on a real project.
  2. Write or draw the shared goal and list the materials it would need. Check what is available before promising to make anything.
  3. Offer optional roles such as idea contributor, recorder, materials helper or observer. Include a quiet choice, and let people change roles or pass.
  4. Agree on three manageable steps. An adult checks the proposed location, tools and permissions before any practical work begins.
  5. Use the last prompt to explain how everyone can choose whether and how to join. Revisit the plan if a role or step excludes someone.

For younger children, draw one goal together and have an adult write their three steps. Older children can check the materials against available supplies and identify what needs permission. Pointing, speaking, a scribe and fictional examples are welcome. The printed name line is optional; leave it blank for a shared or anonymous plan. Do not put private information on a display.

The separate educator-notes PDF gives general participation guidance. It does not give a fixed answer or an approved project plan. A completed sheet is a draft to discuss, not proof of a learning outcome.
