The overlap in a Venn diagram has a job
Use intersecting sets when an item can meet both rules.
Include one item meeting both set rules and another meeting neither. These examples make the intersection and outside space meaningful, rather than presenting the diagram as two ordinary trays that must divide every card between them.
A red triangle can belong to both red and triangle sets.
More than one rule can apply
Include an example that meets both rules and one that meets neither. These reveal how overlap and outside space function.
Name the set rules. Place shared examples. Explain outside examples.
Set rules need not be mutually exclusive.
Why does this item sit in the overlap? Use large physical loops.
