Test reflection symmetry with corresponding points
Compare corresponding features on opposite sides of a chosen line.
A design can look generally balanced while placing details at different distances from a proposed mirror line. Compare selected points across that line so the judgement rests on the relationship, not a quick impression.
Use corresponding points to test the proposed reflection. Similar overall appearance can conceal features placed at different distances from the line.
Match position as well as appearance
Mark the reflection line. Locate corresponding points. Check distances and positions.
A feature two grid spaces from the line needs a corresponding reflected feature the same distance on the other side.
Which features correspond across the line? Use a transparent overlay or pre-drawn grid.
Similar decoration alone does not establish reflection symmetry.
