A field note and a fossil adventure have different jobs

Compare a factual record with a fictional narrative using the same prop.

Use the same paper clue to write a position record and an imaginative story sentence. Putting them together helps children enjoy both forms while recognising which one documents evidence and which one creates fiction.

'Card at C2' documents a model position; 'the lost giant awakened' tells fiction.

Keep the labels on both kinds of writing

Use different headings for the scientific record and adventure writing. Both can be valuable when their purposes remain clear to readers.

Write an observation note. Invent an adventure sentence. Label each purpose.

Keep the two purposes visible. Which sentence records evidence?

Dictate both examples.
