A ten-dollar pretend budget with choices to explain
Compare a proposed order with an explicit fictional limit and explain the remaining amount.
Put several fictional menu combinations beside the same spending limit. Invite children to calculate, compare and justify an affordable order, keeping real household circumstances outside the exercise.
To hand: A $10 budget card and paper menu.
Make every assumption part of the fictional scenario. A decision about available tokens should not become a judgement about real household choices.
Explain what remains after the purchase
Choose a possible order. Calculate its total. Compare it with the budget.
A $7 order fits a $10 pretend budget and leaves $3 unspent.
Do not ask learners to disclose household finances.
What calculation verifies affordability? Use counters and fewer menu options.
