A rest is a planned interval, not a lost beat
Represent a silent interval as part of the pattern.
Place a rest symbol between two sound cards and preserve its allotted time. The silence contributes to the pattern, so children need a visible frame that continues even when nobody makes a sound.
Sound-rest-sound includes a planned gap.
Keep time through the gap
Count the silent interval as part of the agreed frame. A rest affects the pattern even when no audible sound is produced.
Define each symbol. Perform the pattern. Preserve the silent interval.
A rest is not an instruction to lose the pulse.
Did the interval remain in sequence? Use silent hand signals.
