Set the boundaries before starting
Write 3–12 prompts that can be observed in the chosen space. Explain where children may go and how to ask for help. Outdoors, check weather and local supervision arrangements; observe plants and animals without collecting or touching them. Children can point, sketch, talk or work with a partner. There is no fixed answer key for open observation prompts.
