Pattern Worksheet Generator

Make number sequences, repeating shape patterns or changing dot groups, with drawing space and separate answer explanations.

Use the same inputs and seed to recreate the patterns.

Choose the pattern type, then create your printable.

Find and explain a rule

Children look at the given items, fill the next two boxes and explain what stays the same or changes. Read shape names together, use counters to copy dot groups, or allow pointing and spoken explanations. Starter shapes repeat groups of two or three; challenge shapes repeat four-item groups. Number sequences stay within 0–100: starter sheets count up in 1s, 2s or 5s, while challenge sheets add or subtract 2–10. Starter dot groups add one dot each time; challenge groups add or remove two, with 1–18 dots in a box.

Every finite sequence can have more than one rule. The answer sheet explains the intended rule; ask children to show how a different rule fits the given items. For an extension, let partners make a new pattern. Use a topic as the title and leave out personal information.
