Can another group read your picture score?
Use a clear key and consistent spacing.
The author knows what each symbol was intended to mean, but a new reader needs the key and spacing. Test a short original score with someone unfamiliar with it and revise the notation where interpretation diverges.
To hand: Blank notation cards.
Define symbols. Write a short sequence. Test with new readers.
Use the reader's questions to improve the score
Ask a new reader to interpret the score using only its key. Their questions reveal symbols or spacing that need clarification.
A star can mean a tap only if the key explains it.
Pictures are not self-explanatory.
Did readers perform the intended pattern? Add text labels.
