Break the ice in minutes with this printable Paper Chatterbox (aka cootie catcher). It’s a quick, low-prep craft that gets kids talking, laughing, and learning about each other—perfect for the first week of school, OSHC sessions, camps, and youth groups.
What’s inside
A ready-to-print square template with dotted cut line
Numbered flaps (1–8) and friendly conversation starters, e.g. favourite subject, a fun fact about yourself, favourite teacher and why, favourite game, a new thing you want to learn, and more.
How it works (fold & play)
Print the page at A4, 100% scale.
Cut along the dotted line to make a square.
Fold each corner into the centre, flip, then repeat so you have four flaps.
Pinch & pop the pockets to form the chatterbox.
Play: One child picks a number, you open/close that many times, then lift the flap and answer the prompt.
Tip: Model one round first so everyone sees how it works.
Perfect for
Back-to-school intros and class mixers
OSHC/After-School Care rotations and free-choice time
Camps & youth small-group warm-ups
ESL/EAL/D speaking practice and confidence building
Teacher/Leader tips
Pair-share: Students use the chatterbox in pairs, then introduce their partner to the group.
Station idea: Set up a “Meet & Greet” table with this, name tags, and a quick selfie station.
Reusable: Laminate on thin card and use dry-erase markers to add/customise prompts.
Printing notes
Print black & white on A4 for an ink-friendly option.
Want sturdier folds? Use lightweight card (160–200 gsm).
